Help Identifying Object Tintype

Last Post of the Night for me

I have a question about an item on a table in a photograph.

There looks to be a dog image on part of it, but I have no idea what it is.

Any guesses?

Well whatever it is, the piece with the dog is hinged and opens downward.

Camera with stencil? Just a WAG.

 

Haha It doesn't look to be very thick, Almost like something that would be a display sign for on top of a counter. Yet, no sign, hinges and a dog? lol

 

Flatscreen TV?

 

I hate to say it, but I don't really see that as a dog. I don't have another choice for you, though.

I do see a metal handle on top - the kind that folds flat. The "box" is pretty skinny to hold much, isn't it.

 

Perhaps an early, commercially-unsuccessful version of the briefcase?

 

I see a poodle or some type of terrier? and something poking his eye?

 

Haha quite possibly? I have no idea what it is. It's pretty much the reason I purchased the piece, because I could't wrap my mind around what the heck it was supposed to be!

Though if you look at the bottom, the "case" portion is even skinnier than the base.

 

Well the guy posing next to it looks proud....maybe he madee it ?

I wonder whether it's a Victorian photo album? Some of them had a built-in stand. The only thing is, most looked thicker than this one does.

If not a photo album, maybe some other type?

I think you are right! It does look like it could be a form of Album!

I didn't even think of that!

 

Okay, then perhaps it's featured prominently in the photo because it's an album containing photos of the man's beloved pooch, who now, sadly, is deceased....
