Can anyone help to identify the country of origin and maybe age of this little carpet? I bought it at an auction a while back but have no provenance and my rug knowledge is basically nonexistent. Fringeless measurements are about 49" by 24". It isn't finely woven but I'd still like to know. Thanks in advance. DSCN7250.JPG DSCN7246.JPG DSCN7247.JPG DSCN7248.JPG DSCN7249.JPG DSCN7250.JPG

the weave looks fine to me...but I don't understand the extra thread hand sewn around the outside of design......as if to stop it from bleeding.......but that red will bleed...????
The hand knotting at the end looks like my Chinese...but I can't say where this one's from.....

I'm wondering about the same thing Komo brought up. Is that extra stitching everywhere on the rug or just in that one spot?

That extra stitching is throughout the rug.

The weaving technique is referred to as a "kilim", a type of tapestry weave also called slitweave. (The wefts turn back on adjacent warps to create the color blocks, rather than interlocking on a single warp as they do on Navajo and other tapestry weaves.) I believe it is Turkish.

After searching Kilim slitweave rugs I can see the rightness of the attribution. It is so good to know...I appreciate the wisdom of the forum. Is it possible to date this carpet from the pictures? That would be great to find out.

IMO not really. Mine was bought in the 80s as “semi antique” which according to the dealer lol was approx. 25 years old so I’d guess mid 20th c forward.
