Hi, just thought I would post a short intro. Im relatively young and just getting in to the world of antiques. So joined this forum to try and learn as much as possible from the experts in order to try and make less mistakes in the future.

My main interests are small furniture, curiosity pieces and the odd painting. I Hope to learn a lot from the excellent community on here in the future.

Welcome! It always does my heart good to see young people interested in antiques. My own young nieces and nephews could give a fig !

Greetings......... there's a lot to read here and a lot to learn here.......
if you can get past the joking around.......this site has great info on a biblical scale ..........
    1.focus on what drives you
2.learn how to spot the good stuff
    3.hands on...whenever you can
    4. stay away from paintings.....there's a hundred million of them out there that are not worth your time to even touch them !

Thanks for all the replys. Im sure I will have many questions for you all in the future. My plan while starting out is to only purchase an item that one I personaly like and two I think it is underpriced, I figure that way I cannot really go wrong. As for the paintings I can totally see where you are coming from, for this reason I only purchase items I would display. Like last weekend, I purchased a small signed oil painting from 1974 in a nice frame for £2 at a boot sale

    ya....I got that.......but be AWARE.....
we have at least one member who buys 2 Pound paintings....at thrifts...and boots....
his house is now overflowing with them......& while sometimes...he gets lucky.... most times...he does not !
The lure of buying cheap stuff....has one major problem........it's almost always....gonna still be cheap stuff !!

Cheap artwork is some of the hardest to get rid of items if my observations at the local auction house are representative.

And from your observations what are the easiest items to get rid of? Thanks C

    Disclaimer: I'm in the U.S.

Quality advertising items (vintage signage is on fire), trendy glassware like Pyrex, vintage video games, certain vintage 1980's clothing, and unfortunately the trend for artificially distressed painted furniture is still strong.

Dont know nearly enough about 80's clothing or most glasswear however whenever I have sold any of the others they have sold fast
