Featured GRANDIUS TABLE - they say it could be 300 years old...

I get the feeling that Bosko69 means James C. He has not been around for awhile, and in fact alluded to the fact that he might not return in his final post. Remember?

He was the 18th Century guy, whereas I favor the 19th. All I can say is this is definitely European; my feeling is that it is ca. 1850-80, just from the details shown. Fine dovetails and fine burl/burr. The drawer interiors look very mid 19th Century.

 

I recall James C. well Ghopper and his final post is unforgettable.Was just wishing he were here.

 

I certainly don't count. The veneer on the sides doesn't scream Old at me. What sorts of nails did the makers use? Those and the screws often give the game away. A 300 year-old desk would have hand-made fasteners. Those went away in the 19th century.

 

Looks like I was way off on my estimate of age!

The nails how ever are semi handmade i dont know how to explain...but someone in front of us already started to restore the table, since then I think there are some irregular nails on it... this can also be seen under the top of the table in one of the pictures...

I'm going to research tables from the mid-19th century, hoping to find some connection to our table! I have a filling that it will be a long search

i am just glad that it is indeed antique and that i didnt screw up again

It may help your searches if you call it a desk, not a table

 

See if there are any visible saw marks to photograph.

 

This looks much more 20th century to me. I would say less than 100 years old. For example the way top is attached to base is certainly no earlier than late 19th century at best. Your pics are fine in viewing quality, but your choice of subject matter is not good. See the post someone just made of a table, that shows all the hidden parts - underneath, attachment, joints, feet, etc. It was easy to say what he had because he showed the important views we need to see.

Someone else said to show side of drawer with dovetails, and you also need underside and inside of drawer, plus closeup of feet, hardware, underside of top, the stuff you removed and where it went. I don’t see anyway to leave the desktop you show on and pull over a tambour? That doesn’t make any sense at all.

The top of the table wasnt original...because we couldnt preserve the state of it unfortunatly... so the top is 20. century ... so thank you all! and i will make it sure that i will presented furniture in more details next time
