Can't help but feel that a very similar image has been on these boards before.

 

It's nowhere in Britain, the trees are all wrong for one thing. A viaduct, indeed.

Can you get a close up on the engine and carriages?

 

Despite the ridiculously Mediterranean colours (not unusual in Deco versions of Britain), I think from the situation and the eight arches, that this could be the viaduct at Cullen in Scotland.

I don't think so. Those are chalk cliffs, which aren't right for Cullen, and those aren't Scottish pines. As I said, a close up of the train would help a lot.

 

Given the color of the train and the shapes of the trees, I thought this might be of interest.

 

A great many operators used green, including European ones. The reason I want a good close up of the train and wagons is so I can wave it under Train Geek's nose!

 

He's had a stare at the original image and isn't convinced it's a British train. But of course, painters aren't botanists, as I often say, so they may also not be accurate on trains.

 

PS: He says the carriages aren't Southern Region, 'cos they have white tops. SR was green overall. (Sad bunny.)

 

Oh, I'm aware there were other green trains, but the combo with the trees was too much to resist posting.

And I do think the train geek may be being a bit too literal with colors and such. Even with the poster I found, the artist used white for the top of the cars.

 

Well I just went down a rabbit hole.

This piece is definitely in the style of many southern railway posters. In particular, of the ones I could identify, those done by D W Burley.

Have no idea if that's a legitimate leap (that this poster style came from the books), but it was all quite interesting and I haven't even had breakfast, yet.

@kardinalisimo what is the piece you have? A poster print? Cut down? Framed? Curious about it.
