Featured Another Mystery Silver Utensil? Please help identify!

Here's my latest silver mystery item. 4" long, loads of English hallmarks - believe . Small 6-sided pot reservoir at bottom. Long hollow tube with a large silver end that looks similar to a big pen tip. Could this have anything to do with ink? With perfume? Sheffield, England from 1860

Yes you may! OK there are three hallmarks (all similar) - On pot, there is a maker's initial mark HA, followed by Crown/Lion/S, which denotes Sheffield, England 1860, I believe. On the "Pen tip" - HA/Crown/Lion. On bottom of pot, a bonus lion.

It's the upper part of something. Maybe capped a glass bottle, now broken? That ink was involved seems a reasonable surmise, with that screw on top. I can see how it might somehow be an attempt to make a less messy inkwell.

 

That seems logical. My gut tells me that something is missing...could be a glass bottle.

 

I'm afraid your date of 1860 is incorrect, although it is a Sheffield mark. First, there is no monarch's head (should be Victoria). Second the shape of the cartouche surrounding the date letter does not match the 1860 shape.

It's either 1935 or 1960. See this illustration of marks from Sheffield for every S date latter.

In which case, we may be looking at a set up for refilling a fountain pen with less risk of ink everywhere.

Yes, they do go together

The longer tube allows air into the bottle as your beverage comes out

The 'bottom' is the cap

Would have been cork around the thicker tube

It'd be unusual to have a screw cap like that (need for speed and all) but if it came from a finely detailed set that held really precious hootch, not so strange.

Just spotted this at a local estate sale

 

The mark appears to be HA for Atkin Bros-Harry Atkin. Online sources indicate pre WWII style mark, so S would be 1935. The punch is weak though, so I may be of.
It looks like a decanter pour spout to me, with a threaded cap, like scoutshouse, terry5739, and komokwa suggested.

 

So I went and picked it up but the stopper is different
