I have this pair of bookends I am trying to get information about.
    1. Are these brass or bronze? With my VERY little knowledge of metals, it appears to me that the bookends are bronze and base they sit on are brass.
    2. Could these have possibly been something else and turned into bookends? It looks like the bookends were attached to the base at a later time. The screws on the base are different than the screws on the bookend.
    3. Can these be dated? The bottom of the stands are stamped "GERMANY".
    4. Can anyone give me an idea of value?

Thank you so much for ANY information! ~Lisa

I think they are what they are. The bases seem to be steel but that shouldn't weigh more just for deadweight but would've been cheaper to use there. The built-in 'fillets' are to receive the screws. The rest I've no idea. :)
