Probably a long shot .... but gonna try anyhow .....

Another piece from the estate filled with genuine old pieces from around the world (famous, decorated, brilliant, highly regarded medical doctor/scientist/musician)

Sterling frame is marked Peru ... assuming (not always wise to do) cloth is also Peruvian? Any thoughts?

Is there a name for this type of cloth so that I can further research?

You don't say what size this is, but I think what you have is just a box top, just like this.

I'd question the authenticity of it being pre-columbian (most likely a piece made to look old).

Try the keywords (peruvian pre-columbian textiles bird Peru) as the Google search for images. Also you can add Chancay or also Chimu. The birds and feline looking head at the top make it most likely Chancay design (they did lots of animal motifs, snakes, birds, etc.). There are loads of reproductions that were done to make fabric look old though.

    Still, neat find!

Wow, FlyingButton (or do you prefer Hellen? ... or H.A.H.?) ... I do believe you nailed it! Thank you for the information and keywords, too!

The size, 3 7/8" by 5" is just perfect for a little trinket box lid. Makes so much sense ... with there being no easel back or way to hang it. I wish the box had still been with it, though .... oh well ... so many people had been through the room before I saw it.

My pleasure Ms. Quirky. That's still a neat little piece, and hey, if it's sterling, it's got value!

You can call me anything you like (just don't forget to call me if you're opening up a bottle of wine).
    Cheers,
    FBR (easier to type, huh?)
