Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

So it is cast bronze or copper coated cast iron? Is it fairly heavy in weight for its size?

it could be "brüniert" (German) or "bruni" (French) which is - sadly - often translated to English as "bluing". In French and German it means "browning". it's a process of protecting the surface by a "fake" layer of rust.

It looks heavy enough for Judd. I've got a pair of bookends by Judd, and they're pretty durn hefty.

They made cast iron stuff, bookends, trays and the like, early 20th century, very heavy and high quality.
