Black Starr & Frost Sterling 1412 Corner Pieces? What are they?

My mom had these sterling silver corner pieces.

The only markers on them are "Black Starr & Frost" and "Sterling 1412".

They also have "LAMH LAIDIR AN UACHDAR" on the front.

They look the corners for a sketch pad or something. The back has curved nails that look like they would attach to something slim.

Does any have any idea what the corners would be used for or their value? Thanks!

Was your mother an O'Brien? That's the clan motto. The Strong Hand from Above.

She's a Boyle, but definitely some Scottish history on my dad's side. Thanks! :)

How much space between the front and back? These could be two of four corners used for a desk blotter, part of a larger desk set (I have some in Chinese brass work).

Roughly 1/4" to 3/8" depending on if you measure the nail portion. There are 4 of them as well. I was thinking of a desk blotter too.

Same here. I ran into some long hallmarked 14k strips that turned out to be edges from a book (probably a prayer book) but the book was long gone. These have to be something similar and a blotter would be the right shape and size.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

Do you recognize the initials in the monogram that is below the motto (LAMH LAIDIR AN UACHDAR)? The initials, I think, are WDH (if my memory serves, the middle letter is the one for the surname?). I may be incorrect about the order of the letters.

Thanks for all the info! Really appreciate it. No clue about the initials, we don't know any WDH's. I wonder if it was a custom piece?

What with motto and monogram it would certainly have been a customized piece.

Both Boyle and O'Brien are Irish names.:) The O'Briens are associated with the famous Irish king Brian Boru.
