The Art of my Travels

Discussion in 'Art' started by Brandon Mccurdy, Mar 10, 2019.

  1. This is a experiment/project I'm going to try; where I'll post artwork I find going around town. You may like the art or maybe not because it's centered around my likings.

One thing I love about thrift stores are how they are like little art galleries, so many pieces of lovely artwork you can find.

I've been doing this for a bit, so here's the first round!
Let me know what you think!

Brandon, to me this is such an overload it is hard to find quality pieces among the rest. Sorry.

My first thought - why do they put price stickers on the front of the paintings? That said, there are a few I would buy and a lot that are "sip and paint" class paintings. The "paint by number" matador paintings were popular a long time ago. I received a few paint by number kits when I was a kid but they were so boring!

There are a definitely pieces in there I certainly would have given a second look!

Not sure on what kind of input you're seeking, but if it's just sharing for the enjoyment, it worked!

The vintage paint by numbers are selling well on Ebay, I sold two small ones of ships for quite a bit.

What a fun project, Brandon! Great way to educate the eye with decades of popular taste huddled together on a shelf or two. I particularly like the abstract work entitled "Cobalt Skies."

We'll play along... Closer hands-on inspection might change our opinions, but... Doubtful we'd buy any of them, because A) our collecting budget is limited to whatever change we can find under the sofa cushions and B) our wall space is extremely limited, but were someone to gift us with any of those, we'd probably find a spot to hang 1, 2, 8, 10, 15 (lower), 18, or 19 from the first group of nineteen, or 5, 9, 11, or 13 from the second seventeen. Cha! Go ahead and call us philistines.

You are seeing better art in the thrifts than I am. 95% of what is in our thrifts are cheap prints. I occasionally find a gem or two. There are a few I would buy for resale if the prices were right. None I would hang on my wall.

#2 and #12 would be the only ones Id look at twice. Lots of student art and prints.

  15. Love the response from everyone!

All this goes back to the start of the year, when I noticed I was coming across all this nice art. I just had to picture it because I knew I'd never see it again.

BaseballGames/Jivvy- Will definitely number them next time.

Verybrad- This is all from New York and nearby a bunch colleges, museums and well off neighborhoods, so the odds of finding this stuff is much greater.

Debora- Wow you identified one of them! Nice

Jammie- What's the best way of identifying paint by numbers? Both in look and in finding it online because that explains why when I search the names on some of them; I get nothing.
