I have another Brooch I need help with....

Hey Guys,

All the info I received on here vs what I found on the net was spot on!!!! So I figuered let me get the correct info from you guys, since you helped me out with the Helmet shell... This particular brooch says Sterling KD on the back.... I do not see any other marks or other info unless you guys tell me where to look.....

 

Im sorry guys for slamming you with a double..... I just dont trust what I see out there... Some people says diamonds, some say marcasite...I have no idea what marcasite is so i figured go right to the pros!

 

It's difficult to tell from the photos about any stones. They are definitely not diamonds. If the piece is really glittery in good light then probably marcasites (pyrite actually, not true marcasite, which is brittle). The other possibility is that they are 'steels', pretty much what it sounds like, metal that has been made to resemble marcasite. This would be my guess from pix. Sometimes they are mixed, with larger stones being marcasite & smaller ones being steels.

 

Sometimes it's neither marccasites or stones, but pressed silver.

 

Certainly not diamonds, marcasites at best. But it could be silver made to look like marcasites.

Marcasite is a silvertone mineral, and it is often cut to be used in jewellery to get the shimmer of diamonds without the high cost.
