We came across this little gem. Nothing we search for tells us what it is. To me it looks like a fabric (I think it's silk) covered shaker box. The box is soft, so it's probably some sort of cardboard or paper.

It's about three inches tall, less than two inches thick, and only weighs about two ounces. Inside the rim someone wrote something in pencil.

Has anyone ever seen anything like it?

I own a similar (but paper mache) egg that was made in Germany and lined with cloth.

The ones from Germany are usually animals.
The 1.20 is the price which is too high for the early ones.

    It is not Shaker.
I'm going to guess 1980s to go with the Shabby Chic Victorian decor.

May have contained candy. I'd date it earlier than the 80's, mostly on condition, but that's just my impression.

Certainly looks old to my eye. Early 1900s.

Hmmm... Kate Greenway died in 1901. Clothing depicted on egg dates to a tad later.

As already suggested, a German silk-covered candy box, probably circa 1910s-20s...

    Hi,
I have several Christmas themed eggs and 1 or two Easter eggs ones. Ill be getting those out soon. Mine were all made in Holland and contained jelly beans from the 1980s.
