Mahogany dresser

How are you gonna have those "clean simple lines" with the keys stuck in the drawer fronts all the time?
Or even worse, if you stored the keys somewhere else & lost 1 or 2..........

 

Yeah, i would think twice about a piece like this even if reduced, if SIS is correct & it looks like a dead on accurate match to me.........
Seems very cumbersome for personal use & trying to flip something like this could be problematic as well.

 

Sometimes, the ones with no knobs are opened by slightly pushing the drawer in.

 

I am not even convinced it is not a reproduction. It would drive me mad to open the drawers with keys (which were not in the drawers), so maybe they are missing.
The finish is a luxury one, called Piuma del Mogano( mahogany feather if translated literally or mahogany crotch in English).
Not sure what wood is under the luxury veneer.
Still, lovely to look at.

It is beautiful but they would never work around here. My other half always puts 5 lbs of sausage in a 3 lb casing. I have enough trouble pulling drawers open with two handles. I would NEVER be able to open the drawers with just a key EVER!!!!!

There is something festering in my little gray cells about this... My grandparents had...something...that only had keyholes. But the key was to LOCK the drawer. To open it, there was a slender iron...ah...thing, shaped like an L. One inserted the short end, and then tugged.

(Mutter, mutter, mutter...)

 

Yeah, i can see why this design, with keys or Allen wrench (L shaped thing) to open drawers went NOWHERE with the public, it's all just "to busy" & to clever by half.

 

LOL! My 'thing" has a name!...but I thought a wrench was a great big heavy thing with a wheel in the top...

That's it!!!! Amazing what the mind can do! Now if I could just remember WHAT piece of furniture it opened...!

 

That's what i am sayin! to clever by half! which is why so few have even seen furniture like this nevermind owned.
Prior to this thread i never even knew furniture like this existed.

 

And, now that i know, i am quite happy to forget about the whole thing!

 

I went back today and asked them to open the top, thinking it goes upwards, but it was a drawer.

No keys I was told. But the piece is a real antique, very old. He shoved some big universal key inside the lock to open the drawer.

My Louis Philippe dresser (marble top is a replacement) too has only keys to open the drawers.
If you don't load heavy stuff as bed sheets it works marvel, the drawers slide smooth and straight.
I use it for my lingerie, socks and wool sweaters

Perhaps my socks are lighter than yours!
