This Cosco is not a retailer. There may have been a retailer named Cosco but I have never heard of it. This Cosco is best known for children's car seats, cribs, strollers, etc.

Hi,
Cosco was a manufacturer. They made all kinds of step stools and ladders etc. I have stuff from the 1940s made by them. They were based in Chicago, I know nothing about them having stores. They may have made other stuff, I just remember the folding chairs and folding bridge tables etc.

Sharona, that was actually a pretty average haul, I normally do better, honest! I tend to avoid the big trendy sales and go for smaller scruffy ones. I want either the casual people clearing their tat, or the house clearance boys, who always give me good prices.

I don't think the inkwell is wildly old, but it's well made and good looking. That works.

I think the candlestick is neat, too, pity it wasn't a pair. It's moulded, with a bit of age, but I need to research it. The colour was what fascinated me.

 

The spirit of the driftwood is a waterfowl?

 

I like the driftwood carving. With the elongated neck and long but slim beak, I'll venture a guess for a "fisher-bird" (my wording) which doesn't venture too far from a shoreline, pier, even marshes and "back-washes."

 

It wasn't carved. As found. I'm thinking it's a crossbreed between a loon, cormorant, turkey and swan.

 

Terry, true perhaps if you're thinking only in terms of the 1939 movie.
