I received these from an Aunt who is long gone. I asked her one and only adult child about them & all she remembers is she used the back of one as a teenager for a cutout picture of someone & got in trouble. Yes, it’s still on the back of one. I think they are watercolors (art is not my thing) one is signed one is not. I am not sure if they are valuable or not. They are both with frame about 13X18. Thank you in advance. image0.jpeg image0 2.jpeg

Hi NanaB. Is there a lighting issue or are the colors of the artwork the same on the pieces really the same as on the screen?

They are dark, that is one of the things I was actually questioning.

Nana-Sorry to be repetitive, but they are really, really dark.If actual original Dufy's ,they would be quite valuable.
Know this-Dufy was probably, next to Van Gogh -the MOST reproduced artist in postwar America.Every 1950's suburban housewife who fantasized of being Audrey Hepburn in Paris, had a Dufy print hanging somewhere in their fresh subdivision house.

Thank you. I have no idea. I also know just because someone is wealthy does not necessarily mean they bought originals. No worries on repetition, I should have stated they were dark in the original post. Thank you.

nana-no socio-economic implications intended ('wealthy people buying originals'),just meant that Dufy prints were the Beatles of U.S. Francophile decor.

Oh I knew! I was not born until 66, so I had no clue that they were in every housewives’ home, which makes sense. I know that they were beyond wealthy, and I know that never means anything is what I meant. Sorry! Sometimes words put together, can sound not nice and that was not my intention! As always, I appreciate everyone on here and love to learn about things that I am clueless about.

Usually watercolours are glazed, these don’t appear to be behind glass. If you have a magnifying glass have a close look, you will see tiny printed dots if they are prints. It’s always helpful to show the backs of pictures too.

*Great point Houseful-WC's,pastels & temperas have to be glazed (under glass) because they're so delicate, unlike oils.
PS-Unfortunately in many Museums now they glaze oil paintings to prevent them from vandalism.

Great backing ! Now just go back and 'edit' (delete) out all the redundant pics.
    I wonder who that vintage teenager is-old Brylcreem,French Discotheque Ad/Poster ?
PS-What if that portrait turns out to be French Elvis ?....

No, I'd think late 1950s/early 1960s for print, frame and image.
