Can anyone tell me what type of chair this is and the approx age? It is small, very decorative with a needle point seat. It has a very interesting back.

Hi, Mindy! I've taken the liberty of reposting your photographs as Full Image so they're easier for everyone to see. You'll want to make sure you do that instead of click on Thumbnail in the future. (And not to worry. All new members do the same thing in their first few posts.) And, yes, please do tell how you came about your chair and what you were told about it.

Hi! And thank you for fixing the pictures. I picked this chair up at the goodwill. Total impulse buy. I just liked the way it looked and for $10.00, I bought it.
It is on the small side, but not child sized. Here are pics of the underside 19634911-E097-4088-B664-CCBC605070A6.jpeg 19634911-E097-4088-B664-CCBC605070A6.jpeg

Goodwill? What a great ($10!) find. I can make out "Foster" followed by "514 S__all B" which I assume is an address. Does that read to you as somewhere local?

I live in the Orlando, Fl area and am fairly new here, so I am not sure. But I agree, it seems like an address of some sort, the handwriting, though faint, is very pretty.

It's a pretty, old-fashioned hand. May well belong to the chair's original owner.

There's a 514 Sowell Blvd in Brewton, Alabama, but the "w" doesn't seem to work with the other very well structured letters, and it does look like an "a" not an "e".

-scratch that, it's Rd, not Blvd.

    Swing and a miss

Late 19th century spindle chair with some elements of the stick and ball style. Was probably part of a set. I would think European (or English) in origin. Seems to be beech. The address may have been where to deliver the chair to when new.

The needlepoint seat cover isn't as old as the chair. No reason you shouldn't replace if you wish.
