Anything to say about this possibly professional color photo?

It measures 10" by 8". This was in the frame I asked about elsewhere. I thought it was just a faded print but was surprised to find it is an actual photograph. And I'm not sure it's faded. A bit contrasty (and more so in my photo of the photo), and a (to me) strange color palette, but the flesh tones are pretty good, the lips and fingernails are strongly red, and the blues don't seem washed out. No signature, no back stamp. Looks carefully composed. Any thoughts?

Is she wearing a hat? :watching:

She's wearing an engagement ring, so maybe it was part of a series taken for the occasion?

    Definitely odd.

I don't know if she's wearing a hat. It's not self evident in the original.

That black circle protruding into her forehead looks too even for bangs and is a much darker color than the rest of the hair we can see. If that's what it is, I have to wonder how it stays on her head. ;)

I hadn't considered a hat until you mentioned it, but it seems quite possible. I hope she wasn't meant to be selling hats.

    Hi,
I think she was "selling" the vase.

That's possible, though that feature seems a bit small in the overall composition. IDing the vase might help to date the photo. I thought maybe she was selling the blouse.

    What pops are the roses.
Maybe it's an ad for the newly introduced Queen Elizabeth rose.

This site says it was introduced in 1954, (another site 1955). Either way the clothes, hairstyle, style of ad support mid 1950s.

That's an odd photo, for sure. I like it!

1950's, no question. Gotta love the hat. The suggestion that it might be an ad for the roses is a good one.

I think it's the rose, which I remembered, although not the name. Much made of it at the time. QEII had her coronation in '53.

I think the brow thing IS a hat, which may have been held on by a covered wire circle that went 'round the back of the head. Think some of those crazy styles sported by Roz Russell!

    However, LOVE the Ernestines!

Even looking with a magnifying glass I can't be certain if it's a hat. But she is wearing a rose-shaped earring, so maybe the emphasis is on the roses.

Try a search in images for "fascinator 1950's" lots of examples - like this one without the netting.

    Thank you, Elarnia. :)

(Britain may be just a tad slow in catching up to the current styles. LOL! Much as I enjoyed the wedding of Will and Kate, I did feel as if Cary Grant should have been in the audience!)

From an original 35mm Technicolor print of the event. I took the pics over a light box.

I saw this the other day and thought it had that lurid, paralytic look seen in flower arranging books and catalogs from that era... I can see where she may be introducing those flowers to the world.

But that blouse is styled to per-fec-tion.

She looks worried, though. You'd expect her to have a smile for the lovely flowers.
