    Hi,
I picked up some jewels today and need help.
#1 is a set made up of coloured beads. Clasp on the bracelet and necklace are marked 925, earrings aren't marked.
Is there a name for this style? I think the beads are glass.
#2 is a brooch with turquoise. Gold coloured metal and is heavy. The turquoise is glued in place. Does this look like real turquoise?

Sorry I can't help with what the style is called on your #1 set ... but, I really do think those beads are amber. Amber is very lightweight, but because each of your little beads is on its own little silver 'pin', I would imagine it would seem a little weighty. Have you tapped them (the beads) against your teeth?

The 'stones' in #2 are not like any turquoise I've ever seen before (and I used to sell genuine turquoise from several sources for over 14 years) Once again, I'd tap against your teeth to decide between glass or plastic.

Oh, one more thing - have you looked for a 925 stamp on the earwires themselves? Sometimes artists will put a teeny tiny little stamp there if there is nowhere else to put it ... Even if they are not stamped, they could definitely still be sterling ... I would sometimes make my own earwires out of semi-hardened sterling wire when I ran out of the pre-made kind!

Another thing .... I really like that #1 set. I meant to say that in the first post. Oops.

On your first set, cha cha bracelets & necklaces have individually wired beads like yours has, so that's a possible descriptor.

On the brooch, those kind of look like art glass (or plastic) to me rather than stone.

Ooh, wouldn't that be nice if they were amber!

    Very pretty set, either way.

    Thanks quirky and tie.dye.cat.
I like the term 'Cha Cha' - I can these on someone dancing the Cha Cha.
I don't know anything about turquoise, I'm not sure if I've ever seen the real stuff so I thought I better ask. I'll double check tomorrow to see if they are glass.
Yes, that would be wonderful if the first set was amber but I'm thinking they are glass beads. I tried the static test and nothing happened, but will have a better look tomorrow. I imagine with the silver parts the salt water test wouldn't work.
I'm the pits at this jewellery stuff.

I'm pretty sure that's amber. Those wee beads aren't expensive. If you've a UV light, the amber will fluoresce with a sort of blue cloudy veil. Most of the beads look reconstituted, as they've bubbles in them. I think this is a pretty recent set, but it's nice, I'd have grabbed it.

The brooch is art glass set in pot metal. 1930s or 40s.

A complete set, parure, like the first one has more value than individual pieces would. With that lobster clasp, I don't think it's very old, but it is attractive and should do well.

Ditto what ownedbybear said on the pin.

That amber set might be a crafter's make, I've a friend who does similar. Fiddly as heck.

It sure looks like amber from here. The pin is either glass or plastic; it's a classic 50s material that came both ways. No need to worry about the "stone". The amber set came from a department store, best guess, some time in the 90s.

thanks all! I agree, they are reconstituted amber - have never heard of that before. I can't imagine the time involved to make this set, so many little pieces to attach. Looks lovely on a black display in the shop window.
