    Hi whanau,

Can anybody shed any light on the flower with a CC mark on this silver pot?

I haven't come across it before....

It's the retailer's mark (not an official maker's/sponsor's mark) of Child & Child (partnership of Walter & Harold Child) of Seville Street, London SW. The Childs also had an official mark of WC over HC in a flower-shaped cartouche.

J.B is the mark of Brownett & Co, the initials being those of Jane Brownett, widow of Abraham. The hallmark is, of course, a London sterling mark for the assay year 1885/86.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

Did you acquire this silver item in New Zealand? Is it very common to find antique London silver there? I would love to visit New Zealand someday. (I'm in the U.S.)

I unearthed this in Rutland in the UK. But yes, there is a fair bit of antique London and Birmingham silver doing the rounds in NZ!

A lot of Brits and their descendants. And probably export from 'the Motherland'.;)

Did you sell it recently by any chance? I have just bought this box/pot with the same markings, but also the same repousse work and pie crust edging. It's just gorgeous and I was just looking looking to find out if it was possibly for vestas. The base has what looks like it could be used for striking.

Wouldn't that be a coincidence, the only two kiwi members! It is a gorgeous little piece, I can see why you bought it.:)

@Dory64 - @Nooshie hasn't been on the site since 8/23 so the odds of her seeing this post is likely slim. You could try sending her a private message & she may get a notice to her email telling them there is a message waiting for her.

Thanks AJ - do you think it's a dressing table pot or a match holder? Also, only two Kiwi members? Really - that's crazy!

Thanks Bercrystal I may do that. Don't want to be intrusive though.

It is not my specialty, but I would guess a vesta case, so like a match holder.
I know! Where are they all hiding? Of course it is a small population, but we would love to see more.:)

A small population and not exactly in the same time zone as anyone else but the Aussies. But..never can tell.
