Sofa bouquet info

Hello,

Does anyone have any information about this type of carving from an antique sofa I'm interested in buying?

I've searched the internet wide and can't find any type of similar carving. Any clues?

that sofa is pretty beat up and worn.....
are u going to recover it....

 

Looks early to mid 20th century in a somewhat French style.

Thanks, I didn't realize they were so small, I will post larger in the future.
There wasn't a picture with the whole sofa in one unfortunately.

I've been doing upholstery work for awhile now so wanted to elevate my skills a little bit. I want something worth the effort.

If you like it and intend to use it, go for it. If you're reselling, that carving has been hard to move for a while now.

It is absolutely beautiful and would make a great piece to challenge your upholstering skills.
Once you have the old fabric removed, you will have access to frame and THERE is where many of your answers be found.
Only then can you determine with certainty how it was constructed, and from that derive its age and if it really is antique.
Do take pictures as you go along.

Agree with the others that this is a 20th century piece. Probably made anytime from the 20s-50s. Though the styling is French, it is just as likely made in the US in the earlier part of this period or, more likely, in Italy during the later part of the period.
