I'm thinking this is arts & crafts but not sure. An idea of it's period and value would be really great. Picked it up yesterday and love it. It's v simple . thank you

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

I do like it. When I saw the heart cutouts it seemed newish to me. But looking at the photos, the components seem older. So I'll wait for others to comment. The form seems so unusual!

Lovely! :cat: Looks like stained oak and appears to have some honest age on it.

Yeah, looks like, oak, craftsman, first quarter of the 20th century. Very nice.

Love this! Arts and Crafts … English version. Look at some of the furniture of Charles Voysey for comparisons. Not saying this is his but certainly after him. Can't think the drawer pull original.

    Hi Boo,
I would certainly find room for it in my house. It is wonderful.

A second look at the drawer pull makes me question originality further. It is certainly an English period piece. Suppose it could be original if the maker was not a stickler to the style. Is it stamped steel? Here is a pull that, while similar in period and method of construction, is more appropriate style-wise.

to be honest I've not looked that closely at the handle. It will be an English piece (I'm in the UK :) ) I was expecting it to be copper, but obviously it's not that :) It may be tin though

    Hi Aquitaine,
My 425 square foot Co-op in Brooklyn had a bedroom suite, living room suite, a dining room suite including a fourteen arm brass chandelier. When we bought the house in New Jersey and moved the movers had four guys and a huge truck.
They thought two hours to move the stuff two hours for the drive and two hours to set everything up. They came at 7:30 AM and left at 9:00 PM. When they got everything in the truck and the hour and half to get to the new house. The rest of the time to fill a three bedroom house with a kitchen, dining room, living room and den full walk attic, a full basement and a two car garage with an attic plus the 15 piece yard set they were simply awestruck. I forgot to tell them about the Co-ops storage room and back yard.:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

I'm wondering about the backboard. You did not include any pics of the top of the backboard. It has the several elements of a standard hall tree i.e. drain pan, glove drawer, umbrella slot (s). It does not have coat/hat hangers which were pretty standard for that time period. I'm wondering if it has not been shortened at some time to reflect more modern furniture and perhaps had the hearts added at that time?

You make a fair point, I agree, a chopped down Hall Stand.
It would have had coat hooks and probably a mirror too.

    Ha...ur stand looks like mine...

but, I'm gonna disagree.... with the heavy back..& shelf under the drawer,,,,
I'd like to see evidence of it being chopped .....

Although i don't really know, I am goin with Gus & Davey on this one. It seems reasonable to me, why have a stand for umbrellas & glove box and nowhere to hang your coat?
