No nibbles when I tried to sell it, so now I wonder if it's a repro and collectors could tell. He's 6 1/4" tall.

Hi Bev - It looks genuine to me. I collect some Sarreguemines and try and follow the market. These face pitchers seem to be a bit out of favor right now. And of course the chip on the spout doesn't help. Rare pitchers will always sell but there was a solid moss green jester jug (blue interior) that sold for only $9.99. I meant to bid but it slipped by me.

I only found two other Black Bills online and they had the turquoise interior all the way up. That's one reason I wasn't sure. Also, it doesn't have the name on the bottom as the others did. I decided I may as well use it, so he held the gravy for our Easter roast lamb. Added a bit of mirth to the table, as you can imagine. Probably would've put silverthwaite off her feed. ;)

I honestly don't know anything about these "Black-billed" pitchers; however, found info on the following site. Specifically that the France's Sarreguemines faiencences ones have mold numbers that only go up to the 5000s. It seems to say that those with higher mold numbers are Sarreguemines-types from neighboring areas in France. As yours seems to have a mold number of 11,000 something, it may be from a neighboring area?? Now I don't know if I've understood it correctly.

    The right column:

Bev, I'm not sure if above website is correct on that mold numbering. I have now seen Black-biils with mold numbers in the 7000s on reputable sites saying they are Sarreguemines.

Bev - my reaction to that would ensure that I would not be the only one off her feed!

Not that I decry a bit of humor at the dining table. One of my St. Patrick's Day centerpieces was composed of every kind of potato available...on a silver tray...augmented by some pachysandra leaves... and a group of flexible leprechauns sitting about on various bumps.

    And a lace table cloth.

    Of course.

Flexible Leprechauns. Sounds like an intriguing dance group. Anybody got a spare pole? ;)
