Should I clean slightly or not?

 

My instinct would be to do so because it appears to have old silver polish in places but others may (strongly) disagree.

Maybe just wash it with soap.

 

It is gorgeous, a Renaissance/Baroque Revival piece
I am all for cleaning it, most people don't like wearing other people's sweat and other goo.
And make sure no polish residue stays behind in the crevices, you can use a toothpick or cocktail stick (not a silver one ).

I think vintage rather than antique.

If have one with a similar chain. It's definitely Italian and vintage, and I'd guess 1950s. Beyond that, dunno.

Here's a total blast from the past. I remembered having a similar necklace that was stamped "Salamone". I think there are more than one maker of this Medici piece.
Googled "Salamone Medici" and a 2013 post of mine from the old Ebay boards popped up. No idea whether this will work for people, but surprised it was still on there.

Interesting that a relative of the jeweller happened to come across your post, pity they didn't hang around to tell you a bit more.
Salamone sounds like an Italian name, they could have brought Italian styles over with them or kept in touch with Italian fashions and copied them.

I don't know much about Italian Historic Revival styles and when they were in fashion, but I suspect it is pretty much like other European fashions.
I have some pieces made by Blachian in Bavaria, southern Germany from 1930-ca 1950. They are based on Austro-Hungarian Renaissance Revival jewellery of the 1840-1900 period. A revival of a revival, so to speak.
These Italian and Italian-American pieces have the same feel as Blachian jewellery, so they could date from the same period, 1930-1950.

Peruzzi is a big name in Italian jewellery manufacture. They make just about any style, and some styles, like those chunky, stone studded and filigree decorated 60s charms, are attributed to them.

It is a mark for 800/1000, which means it is 80% silver. It is a silver fineness that is used in many Continental European countries, but not all.
