This has been lurking in my jewellery box for as long as I can remember. I dug it out yesterday to do a ( very amateur) gold test on it. Got the silver sorted but struggling with reading gold tests so needed practice.
Anyway, I *think* it is gold. 9k solution did nothing to it and 14 took about 5 secs to go dark.
How would I know if it’s real Jade or not?
I know nothing about it’s heritage other than it’s oriental or even where I got it but would you repair ( if so how? ) or would that be too costly or even of good enough quality?Seems a shame to just leave it as the more I look the more I like it. I don’t know what the oriental symbols mean- any ideas?
Also I stupidly managed to get some acid on the gold and it left a dark mark on it- tried everything to get it off- Googled it and someone who worked in a jewellers said to use a normal pencil eraser- worked perfectly and gone completely!
You probably all know that but I was astounded it worked so well.

It is probably celadon jade and could be gold plated. The symbols are auspicious characters.
I would add a ring on one side and a ring with a spring ring clasp on the other.

I’ve put a nick out of sight under one of the rings and no sign of green so fingers crossed it’s gold. It’s missing at least a whole Jade linkni think so would need something to make it longer.

I'm totally with AJ about celadon jade, and auspicious characters:)
I'm with you, thinking gold too ;) Maybe a tad under 14K...
I don't think it is missing a whole link:rolleyes: If you can get a spare box clasp this style

and connect it with rings so that it stays flat, this should be the nearest of original:joyful:

Ooh, I really like that it would fit in really well. Where did you see it or is it a generic photo?

I assumed it was missing a link but I think you are correct it’s just the clasp. Oriental ladies in the 1950 obviously had delicate wrists!

    18.5cm or 7.25" long, 4cm or 1.5" wide, 69 grams!!!
The 3D carved panels are ivory:)

That’s amazing. I think what’s known as a ‘Statement’ piece!.
I’d be scared to wear if in case I lost or damaged it. Love the intricacy of the carving with each panel slightly different-and not for a delicate wrist as you say!
