    afantiques, this question has to do with the second picture you posted in the "Hoarder or Storer" thread from a few years ago. You've got a walnut wall clock with marquetry, finials, and a "rolling pin" bottom to the case. My understanding is that this dates to about 1880, that the cases were made in England, and the movement was American (Ansonia?).

    I've got a clock that's very similar, the main difference being that mine has a "bouquet" of flowers in the crest made of bone or ivory, not sure which.

    So my question is: Does this type of clock have a name? Also, values for similar clocks with minor differences are all over the place, from $500 U.S. to $1500 U.S. My feeling is the true value is more like the former than the latter.

    Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

    @afantiques

    Just FYI, when you tag somebody, put the @ symbol at the beginning, start typing the user ID, and when the name pops up, click on the right name to insert it into the post. It will not look like a tag link until after you post it. (I just tagged him.)

    That being said, when AF comes to this site I think he is likely to look for subject lines about clocks and other timepieces. So, he will be here at some point.

    Also, would you like to post a photo of your clock?

    Thanks Fig. This was my first time tagging someone, so thanks for jumping in with a useful tip. I'm sure AF will be along soon.

    Since you asked:

    Not knowing much about clocks I'll just say "That's pretty!" :) and wait for more information.

    I do not have a generic term to describe these clocks, of this exact design (more or less).

    Values depend on where you are and how you are selling, but internet asking prices can be from optimistic to fantasy, so only consider sold examples. I doubt if you would find many on ebay as they are difficult to ship, being both big and fragile.
    In Britain you'd be looking at an auction estimae of £50 to £80 in the current depressed market for clocks.

    Factors such as maker and quality come into the value to some extent, but yours looks average, which is what I am quoting for.
    Probably only the Chelsea Clock Co. would have any significant premium.

    Great, thanks for the helpful reply!! Actually, I'm not interested in selling, just getting a value for insurance purposes. I paid $60 U.S. for the clock, which is in running order.

    You do not need to concern yourself with an insurance valuation, in my experience insurance companies only want to know about very valuable items which will affect the risk. This counts as normal household goods.
