What wood would you say this frame is? Walnut, Mahogany?

    Thanks for helping me with the type of wood on this frame. Maybe era also? Victorian? 1148.JPG 1152.JPG

    Usually an unfinished surface is more helpful.

    That could be any of several fine grained woods stained and polished.

    It does not look very old so it could even be something like sapele, stained.

    This is the back - unfinished, The very back unfinished layer you see is oak - I believe, but do not know what to call the front frame face piece. 1151.JPG

    Looks like mahogany but could be some other wood stained to look like mahogany. I think this is more 40s era.

    Thank you Brad, I think my photo may be deceiving as it looks much older in hand, but excellent condition.

    You may be right. It has a nice deep profile like a Victorian frame and the back looks old. I just find the odd semi-circular cut-outs on the edges and whimsical incised lines to be more modern looking.
