Hi fellow antique peoples! I found this painting a few years back and am looking for a little info on its date and who painted it. It looks to be of the American Military in the 1800's but I am not sure. Please let me know if you have any input or knowledge about the painting!

    Thank You!

I wonder if this could be the artist:

Helmut Fuegel, a European artist started his career in Stuttgart, Germany in 1935, and for several years studied and worked in European Art Schools and Galleries. He directed the Art department for one of Germany's largest companies (AEG) and operated his own successful design studio for many years.

He won first prize at the 1949 International Art Exhibition in Brussels for one of his poster designs followed by several more awards until immigrating to Canada.

In 1972 he won first prize in New York City for layout and design in a national competition for store design.

Today, Mr. Fuegel combines his design and artistic background for personal fulfillment. He was centered in Kitchener, Ontario.

A very brief search didn't turn up much info about him; nor did I find a copy of his signature.

I assume you think it's military because the figures appear to be wearing bicornes. What makes you think it's an American scene?

    H. Fliegel did it. Which one, ??? I’m an art ignoramus btw. But nothing about it looks Military. Small vessel in foreground is some kind of merchantman, no gunports so not a naval vessel. She looks beat-up, listing, and beached, like that’s where she’ll rot. I’d suggest maybe a Dutch or French work. Most H. Fliegel’s I found were Jewish.

Edit: yah maybe Fuegel. The technique does look somewhat modern.

I think it's an American Military because of the 'blue coats'. I could definitely be wrong but I'm certainly making an assumption with it.

Thank you for your reply :)

I'm afraid blue coats are common military garments worldwide.

Is this in your possession? Can you post a photograph of the back? Any markings or labels?

Lmao, are you that bored? I do alot of things in my life here on earth... Including art and photography. Can't say I've come across a person of your ' nothing to do level' since being on this site. Shall I prove I Own this painting??? If you're going to be negative, find something else to do with your time bud. It's currently hanging over my fish tank FYI haha

I'm sure Komo's intention is not for you to prove that you own it, but to give those who might be knowledgeable a more detailed look at your item. As is, the resolution is poor and you can't tell much from it. Maybe you shouldn't take offense at someone giving you good advice - if it weren't for people who decided to generously spend their time (which I suppose they've decided they have nothing better to do than to try to help you) - then no one would get any help/advice around here.

It’s obvious people need better photos. We can’t even see the signature clearly. I don’t think anyone implied you may or may not own it.

It looks like a beautiful painting, but I strained my eyes trying to see it. I'd like to see it straight on in a larger format, also would like to see a photo of the signature. I have poor eyesight.

@aaroncab ...thank you for having my back...... anytime you need a favor....I'm your man !

I don't see where I'm being negative...I got smiley emojys all over the place, & I'm asking for his help so we can get a better view of his artwork !

I just don't understand how some folks have to be so rude and get on a personal attack just to tear other folks down. I'm just amazed at the level vitriol and hate that flows so easily from someone coming here wanting help !

As a matter of fact , I'm so taken aback by his personal assault that I'll hold my tongue.......& let other members decide if I've warranted such offensive treatment to my previous posts here.............

Well put, Very Classy! :) I’m sure something was misunderstood, but a reaction like that is uncalled for.
