Found a crusty looking box with eight cups in it. Box had the word "Tyrol" on it I think 20221120_175827_11zon.jpg 20221120_190603_11zon.jpg

Is there a tag on it ? Sometimes the graphics help date something.

If the box has anything on it, including the word "Tyrol", please show a photo ofit. Also please show a photo of the bottom of one of the glasses. All this will help our members help you :)

Did each glass fit properly into one of the segments in the box? They may not have anything to do with the box.

Box has eight segments and eight glasses that fit properly within them. Still might not be original packaging but I have no way of really knowing. My aunt referred to them as "Colvers" (Culvers??) but I know nothing of glassware and if it's even the brand.

So Tyrol is for the gold band decoration and not the shape?

I think that's the way it usually works with Culver but I'm not 100% sure.

I had some Culver Tyrol glasses, but mine were old fashioned size.

Tyrol is the pattern on the glass, both the gold part and the clear part. That is what culver named it. I got mine at a church thrift shop years ago.

Take a look and see if you can spot a teeny Culver sig anywhere on any of the glasses or a C as in copyright Culver. Some glasses came with their sig, many did not. Many times the sig is almost hidden in the patterns so you have to go thru each with a magnifying glass to see it. Unless you have great eyes...
Some came with paper labels, some did not.

For what it's worth, the technique of manufacture was this: The glasses were pressed, not blown, (no one's said they were, I just wanted to be clear) the design, squiggles and lines were acid etched through a wax stencil, applied to each tumbler/iced tea glass. then the upper portion was plated with gold, or something resembling good (it could well be gold). Nice job. too rich for my cupboard.

Culver used 24K gold on these glasses. They are very nice, but often times the gold comes off even with gentle washing or from storage or usage. I have found Culver glasses in many patterns including the Tyrol. I still have some. Most popular is the Valencia pattern with the green diamonds and the one with colored stones on it, Mardigras
Most popular shape is usually roly poly.

FYI, they are being reproduced now by a totally different co or person.
The people who originally ran Culver glassware... stopped the production when 9 11 happened and someone from their family in the business was killed on one of the terrorist planes.

Thank you, Pearls, Culver is/was too new (too recent) for my attention when I was studying glass.

My grandparents had a few sets of Culver but back then I never thought twice about them being collectible.

I forgot to mention, Culver was a decorating house, not a glass producer.
