I have some pieces of costume jewelry that I think are worth repairing mostly for replacing of stones. Any suggestions about who to contact? Thanks

And our @kyratango is pretty nifty (amazing) with the repairs too!

Huh... She just kicked me me out of her group, after giving me 1 month of "jail" because I had the audace to suggest (not affirmative...) exposing an abraded bakelite ring to sun or UV to get back the yellow aging to the white showing!
We argued before on testing metals by filing and put the acid ON the pieces...
The posts I shared there about my repairs and how to do them are now lost :shifty:
    Incredibly childish:jawdrop: Duh!

Really? You of all people got the boot when you have contributed so much positive stuff?!
I suspect she doesn’t like anyone ‘stealing her thunder’ by posting their repairs. It’s a group I lurk in and use their files for information but I rarely post as I feel slightly uncomfortable doing so.

As she has deleted your comments , I’m quite tempted to poke the nest and go and suggest if UV/sunlight would work :angelic::vamp:

Sandy can be "challenging", shall we say. I'm being polite.

    Hi @kyratango
I wonder if you would like to suggest something I could use to connect the Whitby jet necklace to the dangling pendant. This is in original settings and I have used a thread but it looks horrible. I was thinking a silver bail, but would most likely damage it. I have stiff fingers cannot mend the simplest things lol.
@Ownedbybear I know you live in the Uk, would you recommend a reliable jewellery repair person in the UK to whom I could post the items. I have someone in Hatton Gardens, but he is always busy and very expensive, sometimes I would like to save jewellery with not much value and the repair cost does not justify it.
    Thank you so much.
@Bronwen @PepperAnna I presume you would also like to see this.

Have not seen another quite like the choker necklace with the flowers. Does the pendant belong to the necklace or are you trying to marry them?

Vintage jet jewellery often has the findings, all the little metal bits & bobs, screwed directly into the material, so it would not be out of keeping to have the pendant added that way, if you think you'll always want them together. We'll have to wait for kyratango & others if you want something reversible that will leave no blemish on the 2 pieces.

Looks like it belongs there. Not something I'd want to tackle either.

@Simona Buhus can you show a close up photo of the way it is currently attached?

Yes, please see below. I bought it and it was in the same box, I assumed that it belonged to the necklace which I have added a normal black string made of cotton probably, so there will not be left any scratches on the Jet. In reality the thread is just keeping them together, not permanent, it is not strong enough and the knot at the back looks questionable lol

Hm. I think it does go with it. You can get bales which sort of clip on: I have a jet pendant with one. Let me have a think.....

Thanks @Simona Buhus for showing your necklace. I don't have experience with this type of jewelry so will defer to others

I wouldn't use a metal bale, it would scratch the jet...
A narrow black ribbon with a nicely knot bow in front will be safe and decorative IMO:)

    Brilliant idea, thank you.
The bow at the front is something I could do and probably it will look pretty, better than a flimsy knot at the back lol.

Just to make sure, hit the knot with dries-clear craft glue. Then it can't come loose and ker-smash the pendant.
