Knobby glass decanter, Czech, Italian, Swedish?

This decanter is about 14" to the top of the stopper. It is cased and the colors go from orange to amber to green to blue to amber (or there about). It's not signed.

I've looked at lots of Czech glass photos and catalogs without seeing decanters like this. I think some Italian glass, Swedish glass and some English was made in a similar knobby style but I've not found anything like it yet from anywhere. (Of course one can't rule out Chinese these days I guess as they copy the style of everything.)

    Any thoughts?

Modern, Asian or maybe Eastern European, although I'd expect a smooth base if the latter. The base is the dead giveaway as is the way the stopper has been ground.

Nowt wrong with it at all, it's a decent piece of glass.

Ah well, I had wondered since I found nothing else like it. Of course if it's modern Asian I probably will soon.

You're right it is a decent piece of glass but wouldn't it be nice if it had some decent value too:) I'm sure I paid too much.

On the other hand I found a nice piece of Isle of Wight glass yesterday so yea!

    Thank you!

    Meh, it's probably 60 bucks retail. ;)

Labelled Isle of Wight or flame pontil?

Flame pontil with small paper label tortoiseshell (I think) big flat disc bowl so 1970s Michael Harris as near as I can tell.

I've had some suggestion from the glass message board that this decanter is actually American. Pilgrim made a decanter this shape and this type of stopper in the late 60s but don't know if they made this decanter in anything other than solid colors.

I've emailed the WVA glass museum to see if they can direct me but I thought I'd float this subject back to the top in case someone knows more about Pilgrim.

The Isle of wight piece is nice - he went off and founded Mdina, and that's quite like the tortoiseshell stuff they did.

Just to report back and share what I've learned. I heard from the Museum of American Glass in West Virginia verifying that this is indeed a Pilgrim decanter only made circa 1969-1970 and is the No. 210 wine decanter. I'm really happy to have it as WVA is not too far from me and I'm sad that so many of the glass factories there have closed including Pilgrim. I'd never have guessed it was from around here.

This photo from a 1969 catalog was provided by someone on the glass message board showing a version of this decanter.

I'm thrilled with the Isle of Wight piece too and I'm a little surprised actually as I really just stumbled upon these. Here is one of the tortoiseshell chargers like mine from

Thanks me too. I was convinced that it must be newer but I figured that there ought to be some out there and just couldn't find any. Now that I've been steered to Pilgrim I found a few of the single color decanters but still haven't seen one in multi color though the email from the American Glass Museum said yes to the color as well. What a nice surprise!:)

It's fun to learn new stuff and I do really like chunky globby glass.

I was believing it was modern Asian but I figured there should be a gazillion of them around and couldn't figure out why I wasn't seeing any. But then again I'm not the best glass searcher and I don't have enough knowledge to help myself out sometimes.

I had looked at this site with Blenko bases, Blenko also being a West Virginia glass company but larger and better known. I looked at a lot of Blenko but didn't think that was the answer. The first base shown looks surprisingly like the decanter so maybe it was a West Virginia thing.

I see what you mean about Mdina tortoiseshell. I guess he liked it enough to carry it through to his other venture. I'm glad mine has the flame mark and didn't lose the paper label or I'd not have know where to start looking. Glass can be such a challenge.
