Is author, Count Fritz Hochberg, the artist?

What an odd choice for reproducing and mis-representing. (The Count's signature can be seen on the linked work.) Certainly doesn't bode well for the other piece.

There's other framed works by Studio Art Shop floating around. Here's one about which the seller knew nothing (although that didn't stop him from listing it on eBay.) Frame same general age.

I've been following along and enjoying the find. I'm a bit confused though, are you suggesting that journey's painting is a print or reproduction?

I'm not sure what you mean by this ... the monogram-type signature looks the same to me ... but I'm clicking back and forth between the two images ... wish I were tech savvy enough to post them side by side

 

The signature was to post what we can know to be a true artist's signature for comparison. And I think it's an "interpretation" because it's clearly -- at least to my eye -- not by the same hand and the execution is much more contemporary.

The intensity of color is one of the problems in my minds eye. Though they are prints in a old book and therefore, subdued, this color of the work in question is highly saturated. It looks to me that someone went over the original with modern paint.

 

I agree. Given allowances for the original printing process, the digital scan of the printed image, the compression process of the PDF format, my screenshot... I'm not even a tiny little bit surprised by the differences.

 

This is a fairly glowing account of the Count (unlike the American reviews of him via his books -- which were pretty scathing) and I didn't read the entire piece, but thought it might be of interest to @journeymagazine
