identification of 935 silver makers marks and item needed thank you

Hi all not been on for a while been busy but I found this item well the mrs did and we are discussing whether it is a snuff box or pill box? The item has a guilloche enamel design possibly 1920s though again not sure. Please could someone put this to bed so we have some peace and quiet. Also the silver makers marks are unknown looks like MW (some mark between the M and W though I do not think this is Mappin and Webb) so any help here would be great thank you in advance.

 

not Mappin & Webb..... I don't think....not at 935.....
Not British...

Need to see it opened before I say it's a ladies compact.

 

.935 silver was mostly used in Central Europe.

 

935 was common in Europe, particularly Switzerland.

 

Swiss silver would have more marks. This is more likely to be German or Austrian. I am leaning towards German.

Thank you for your replys and Komokwa for reminding me of size etc. The size is approx 2 and a half inch by 2 and a half inch and half inch top to bottom. The weight is approx 105grams. I have done another picture of the marks but I still cannot work out middle mark. I need a better loupe or magnifier. I hope this helps and thanks again for the replies.

 

The mis-stamped one on the right in the above photo is an upside down #2
the middle stamp looks like MAW with a straight line over the A.

 

if the 2 is upside down....maybe the MW is too !

 

The problem is that there are no identifiable "national marks" in this. Tough to find a maker (even when you have initials use) when we have very little idea of where this was made. Sure we have 3 countries where 935 was or is an authentic silver standard, but still a problem.

 

now I see the size, I'm thinking to come down on the side of Pill Box.

I kind of worked out MW is same if upside down. Why would their be no country mark? The mis-stamped 2 is also stamped alone on the lid not sure why this is the case. I have seen 935 silver just with the 935 mark why the difference? I think it is a pill box but why not a snuff box? 105g seems a good amount of weight for the size? Which would be a good place to try and research the marks or do you think they will remain unidentified? I have googled yellow Giulloche enamel 935 and very little is found. What age would this be I thought about 1900 - 1910?

A lot of these that I've seen are called both.....maybe just word spamming to get more eyes to see it.....or maybe they are not sure themselves.
I prefer snuff boxes to be deeper than yours....so when opening the snuff doesn't move around or spill out.

 

It does seem a bit thin to hold snuff so pill box is probably right. I still think it is heavy at 105g for the size. Amber and yellow does not gain much results in search.

 

The middle mark could also be MHW, with a line under the H.
