I have no idea if they are still performing now, I can't bear to look in case I see a vid of them. They looked pretty terrible last time I was unfortunate enough to catch a glimpse.

Oh I don't like All the Young Dudes at all...guess what happened to me though ! Not a very *glam* ( :p) story but I was parked in my Mkii Golf GTd.listening to "All the Way from Memphis" on my iPod and guess who walked past? Verdun Allen! ( My dad is friends with him so I do already know him, he was always telling me stories about Dave, his teeth falling out mostly) and I have no shame so I chased him and caught him up. He told me it was his *axe* that got stolen and was on the train as per the song Memphis but I later realised he's a keyboardist so I dunno.
Blackstar was magical. What a gift. I love Tis a Pity She was a Whore, in fact I was listening to that when I first heard The News :'( :'(

(Oh yes, the other Candidate was on the 90s CD reissue and yes, love both versh's. That could be my fave Dave LP actually ( though can leave the title song strangely!) )
"And in the death,as the last few corpses lay rotting on the slimy thoroughfare..."

Not to belabor all of this too much, but HOW COULD I FORGET QUEEN BITCH? Damn, one of my all-time favorites. I wanted him to do it when I saw him in St. Louis...that happened to be one of the few shows where he did 'Young Americans' instead. On most of the rest of the tour he did, in fact, do Queen Beotch.

I know many are besotted with 'Young Americans' but I'd much rather have seen 'Queen.'

I saw Steve Jones guesting on an episode of the hilarious 'Portlandia' show. He was funny, but looked like he'd gained 100 pounds. I didn't recognize him until I saw his name in the credits.

Ah, if only I could have met Bowie and gotten him to sign a few LPs. Jealous of your nephew, Komo.

Great story about Verden Allen! He still looks the most like the old days. I always liked his song on "All the Young Dudes," namely 'Soft Ground.' Weird stuff. Overend Watts and Buffin from Mott's 'Dudes' era have both passed on to that great gig in the sky. Sad.

(Just want to mention that where I come form EVERYONE knows at least one of Mott and/or the Pretenders ( yak) , just so you don't think that I live in some exciting place where random 70s musicians just casually stroll down the street on the regs )

Queen Bitch is a masterpiece and I don't use that term lightly. I have a confession: I don't really *get* the Velvets , think they are overrated ( except Heroin and Femme Fatale) I much much prefer Bitch to any of their offerings so I think he succeeded pretty dam well. Love you always, Dave.

Steve Jones is funny as all hell, love him but he is the size of several buses now and I would never have known 'twas him either until he spoke.
As a rites of passage,I made my kids watch the Grundy interview when they get to a certain age and now our fam has a catch phrase that we say when anything goes wrong...**what a rotter**. I LOVE that interview. Makes me glad to be alive(though I always am glad) (that sort of confirms it)
Jones is the star of this particular show. He looks at the camera in such a cheeky way ... Grundy goads him and I just love it. That was where it all started to really kick off. Wish I was alive enough to remember it. Must have been SO EXCITING! My particular punk was called Street Punk and was much later than the '76 punks.

A pic of me a few years ago with Colin of GBH at a GBH gig in Brizzle ( and my leather, have had her for many years ( since I was 13 ) and everywhere I've been, she's been too. )

I love most of "Young Americans", "Right" is in my top five of Dave songs but don't really like "Fame", "YA" itself I love...hate his versh of Across The Universe. Detest it, have to turn it off it's that bad. **... words are flowing out like gentle rain into a paper cup**....no some things are just best left totally alone . The Beatles are untouchable even by Dave <3

Around the next block, on W. 71st. Every work day had to catch the subway right across from the flower-covered gate on W. 72nd, edging through all the people who were there just to keep vigil. Many evenings would join them for a while. Was sorry to hear Yoko say the sight was distressing, but suspect most of us had loved John before she even knew who he was.

So sad...my poor Mum was devastated ( think everyone was)

I was in bed on my b'day and Mum came into my room crying and saying "have you heard?"
No idea how I could have as I was a child in bed with no wireless ( no Net in the ole day kids)
But was awful. This was before I'd really developed my Beatles knowledge and didn't know many Beatles things but was au fait with his solo stuff as Mum loved it . Jealous Guy to me is THE most utterly poignant song ever. Too real xx

Elton is a HUGE talent. The original (not the rehashed version for Di) version of Candle in the Wind is so poignant
