    I have these early silver wick trimmers, but I don't recognize the mark and haven't found it anywhere. Anyone recognize it?

    George Gibbs was a close-plater, a technique used from the late 18th century into the mid 19th, fading from use as electroplating became widespread. Thin silver foil was soldered to a steel base, usually found on items that would typically require steel's strength or ability to hold a keen edge, like knife blades, skewers, nutcracks, etc., and snuffers like yours...
