This brooch is marked Mexico Silver. I was going to scrap it as the little thingy is missing from brooch clasp, and I don't think I have one to replace it. I just happened to come across a brooch with a similar look of those balls in the middle of the brooch, and the listing said they were typical in Los Castillos jewelry.

Just wondering if anyone knows Mexican jewelry enough to give an idea on the possible maker of it.

The mark isn't legible in any picture. Is it all one piece or a duette clip? In other words, can those two pieces on the front be unclipped and worn separately?

That's where it says Mexico Silver. I didn't realize until I posted that I must have previously deleted the full on picture I had of the back...I'll post one in a second.

It is all one piece though - not a duette. :)

Not Los Castillo most likely. Pretty darned old though - Pre-WWII most likely.

No, I won't. I just don't have any clasp do-ma-hickeys to replace the one that's missing, but maybe I'll hold onto the pin until I have a repair lot to put up. I already have a Taxco calla lily brooch that also needs repair, so I'll just hold off and put them together with whatever turns up.

That's what I would do, repairing jewelry, you can also break old clasps, at least I can...would not intimidate someone who can easily fix that I would think. I only mess with very simple repairs, rhinestones and the hand set ones drive me bonkers, so I don't

You can wear most of those old rollovers as a C clasp; they tend to stay put.

I do simple repairs - replacing clasps on bracelets, replacing rhinestones, etc. but I've never replaced that part of the clasp before....still, I don't think it would be too difficult except finding one that fits it.

I'm wondering if it's also missing something in the center. A ball or something.

It definitely would stay put, but I think (some) buyers would be wary of buying it like that.

Good observation...it kind of looks like it is, but I just looked at it and I don't see any telltale signs of solder marks of where something would have been.

I think it was made to look like a duette, something popular at the time, so there's nothing missing.
