Well, to push back in favor of paint, paint decorated furniture can be SPECTACULAR if done correctly and can turn a ho hum piece into an outstanding example. A few examples.......
Hadley Mass, Chest of Drawers about 1710

World Record holder for single painted piece, Robert Crosman 1726

Painted RECENTLY by Dan & Marlene who take old furniture and paint it for a living

That's probably a bit more ornate than what we would do. Lol

Well, was posting some FAMOUS examples except for the last one by Dan & Marlene. But even painted a solid color doesn't look bad like this one on Etsy

Or this one in 2 colors

The point is, paint done well looks good & depending on who is doing the painting, can be GREAT!

20190205_140952-1612x1209.jpg I agree. My wife painted this one years ago. I think it's from a similar time era as the one I'm posting about. Our kids have been using it every day.

Well, there you go! Pay no attention to the fuddy duddys in here! :hilarious: They are anti paint for some reason.

I think it just depends on the piece. Something very old and rare I'd never paint, or refinish for that matter.

That two colour one is a Stag Minstrel piece. I own an un-got-at one. Mahogany solid fronts and veneer on solid wood, made in the 70s.

Brett, I have to ask: Is that a Little Tykes red car bed next to the dresser?

I only ask because I have one in the garage. It belonged to my son, who's now in his late 20's. When he got a "normal" bed, he absolutely forbade me to get rid of it.

When he was here at the holidays, he asked, "Is that my car bed in the garage?" When I told him that indeed it was, he asked why I'd held on to it!

His sister & I both said, at the same time, "Because you threatened DEATH if it wasn't saved for you!"

(Well, he now doesn't want it, apparently - I told him that I wish he'd let me know that THREE MOVES AGO!)

Yep, it sure is. Little Tykes Jeep. We switched the bedrooms around recently so I've had to disassemble it a few times lately. Dosen't fit through doors too well. 20190121_145500-1209x1612.jpg 20190121_172147-1612x1209.jpg 20190121_174503-1612x1209.jpg

LOL, yes, what was once VERY important, no longer is.

    Yes, for certain!

Well, the one in the garage is a race car, not a Jeep, but I do recall how important it once was... Sigh.

I'm planning to do a bit of "garage clearing" once spring arrives, and if DS (and/or his SO) is no longer interested in it, to Craig's List it goes!

And just for the record, I still have the twin-size Ethan Allen canopy bed that was mine when I was a kid. My daughter used it for many years, and now it's in the attic - waiting for a grand-daughter (who may or may not ever be...)

For a paint decorated American single piece of furniture?
YEP, I am sure, just shy of 3 million USD for that Crosman painted piece. :cigar:

Ah you meant the price, you should have said that.;) I thought world record for a painted piece, as in the painting on a piece of furniture.

The 1935 Hindeloopen cabinet and chest with biblical scenes sold for 2400 euros, which is a steal imo.

Paint decorated furniture is popular now, I have no idea why people in forum don't like it, it can be spectacular! if done correctly.
