    Thanks

I couldn't find anything for "RENF" either. Wait for others.

    Is this a brooch/pin?

It's broken but possibly half a cufflink?

Boy, could not find anything on Google either. If it tests at 18k, even if you can't find who made it, would definitely have some value as melt down.

I've just got some acid and a stone so I will give it a go. I'm practising at the moment and not entirely sure how to read the results yet as my instructions tell me to put the acid straight onto the item which I'm not going to do as I've got a few pieces that have obviously had acid put straight onto the jewellery and it has marred what were lovely pieces.
I don't want to melt anyone's handiwork down but this is so broken that may be its fate. I find the research very satisfying when you can track down a maker and approximate date.

It sure looks like real gold; that would explain why someone kept the broken cuff link. As a busted one it may just be scrap metal at this point, unless you can find someone who wants to repurpose it.

I agree that it is probably scrap but it's bugging me that I don't know what the letters mean! :arghh:

An abbreviation for Renfrew or Renfro? (maker's name)

I have seen it before, but any possible info remains hidden in the cobwebs of my memory.:banghead:
And yes, it looks like part of a cufflink. Looks like Art Deco.

Yes, maybe Renfrew?. An abbreviation of where it was made?

You're welcome. I know it didn't help with your question, but that's all I found...

It's interesting to see other items by the same maker so it all helps and I appreciate your effort :)
