    Hello everyone.
Back here again looking for advise please!
I have bought some silver spoons today and believe that some are of greater interest?
The first is a pair of what I believe to be 'seal spoons'
To my limited knowledge they appear very early. I have seen similar that have been Elizabethan? They are each 140 mm long. The baluster bowl is around 48 mm wide.
One bowl is a little battered & I believe that the stem has been rather crudely solder joined perhaps after breaking. Seal spoons_1.jpg Seal spoons_3.jpg Seal spoons_2.jpg Seal spoons_4.jpg Seal spoons_5.jpg

A seal spoon, or a seal-top spoon, is a spoon with a flat circular disc at the top of the handle, where you could engrave your initials, crest, monogram or a date, to act as a seal.

    ...that's what makes them a SEAL-TOP spoon.

I don't see that here. I just see a pair of round spoons.

They don't look like silver to me, but yes, one certainly looks like it was broken & repaired.

The design looks flat out medieval to me, but as to how old they are...no idea. Except not Medieval.

Appear to be pewter reproductions of 15th century acorn knop spoons, perhaps English...

Seal-top spoons in sterling silver are still made today (or at least, relatively recently).

I have one in my collection. It's not an antique, but it's still cool. You can buy them on eBay.

Many thanks for your reply. They do hold something of a curiosity to me. Like many things antique-wise I am compelled to learn more before putting them aside!

Many thanks for your reply. I had wondered if they are pewter but the soldered joint makes me wonder. I know that silver can be soldered but I don't know if pewter can be.

Pewter can be soldered as well.
