I've never given this necklace much thought and was putting together a charity-shop box when the urge to apply detergent took hold. It was and still is very grubby. I figure it's Indian and bone, but then I am hopeless at telling ivory. Maybe it is horn? P1100217.jpg P1100218.jpg P1100219.jpg P1100220.jpg It is joined with red cord and has very humble clasps. Indian? African? 1930-70s? I'm sure one of you will identify it immediately. Thanks.

Bone for sure. Age...? Anything from the 70s on up with smart money on mid to late 1980s or early 90s.

Can only confirm that it is bone and not ivory.
You tell by these porous areas

Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

I agree on the major part of the necklace, but are the beads too......they look ‘different’..........

Bone it is, but that it is so recent surprises me. It looks pretty hand-made ... would that be in India??

Yes, almost certainly. The silvery findings are probably nickel.

Hard to tell from the pictures presented. They do look like they have a higher shine/polish.

Those metal tubes near the clasp are used a lot in Indian village craft jewellery from the 1960s onward. That is always a clue.
In the 1960s, and to this day, village craft projects were set up so small communities could support themselves, and rural people wouldn't have to move to the cities and end up in slums. Sadly the family in the video Holly posted had to leave their home anyway, due to unrest in their home region.
