Adam S. Dodd (adambigtex) Introduction

Thank you Peter for the opportunity to provide members with an introduction. I don't know where it came from or why it is, but I have been collecting for many years. I am a Federal employee by day (with 9 months until I am retirement eligible), and an artist/philosopher the rest of the time. I see the things we make as reflections of our humanity and provide tremendous insight into ourselves and the times. We can learn about how people lived, what they thought beautiful, virtuous, what they like to eat and how they had fun. My favorite pieces are those that beg the question 'Why on Earth did someone make this thing?' 'What were they thinking?' In our lifetimes, we have seen more change in how we live than perhaps any other period in time. No future generations will grow accustomed to occasional sonic booms, crawling under their desks at school during 'civil defense drills, or wonder who it was that called if they didn't get to the phone in time to answer it. I collect Japanese china, all kinds of plates and pottery, but particularly souvenir plates, old photos, works or fine and not so fine art, glass (carnival, uranium, art glass), mid-century barware, Syroco, records and players (victrola to 45s). When I retire, I plan to open at charitable organization and open up shops and thrift stores to fund its work. Thanks again for the opportunity to say 'Hi'!

Paid? Not lately, but I have been working every day without pay. Sometimes
its nice to be considered essential, other times not so much!
