    Hello Glass Masters!

I have acquired this unique green glass bowl that sits atop a marble pedestal. The base is brass and assume that it, at one time, must have been covered.

The piece stands 10" tall and the bowl is 10" wide. There are no marks to identify the maker. The foot is 6" square and the marble is 4" square.

    Who is the maker?

Approximately when/where was it made? (Assuming Italian)

What is it's purpose? Centerpiece? Fruit Bowl? Wash Basin?

Here is one I found on ebay with a similar design:

This leads me to believe that there was a wooden base that was removed?

Thank you in advance for your help!

Can only give my opinion re age. Think -- like that listed on eBay -- 1970s date is correct.

    Hi,
I agree, that avocado green has to go. A bright emerald green would look wonderful on that stand. I love colored glass but for some reason avocado green just turns me off.

Hard to tell who assembled this stand but it was not Anchor Hocking.

Me, too! I love avocado -- except for the color.

I would definitely call this piece a "marriage" - an avocado bowl married to a emerald glass on marble base. Maybe it started life as a candlestick like these: ruby candlesticks.jpg

I hate to say it but it was most likely made that way. Probably had matching candlesticks along the lines of those pictured above. Usually seen as a three piece console set. No other purpose really. These sell based on the color (agreed this color is dreadful) and style. Who made the glass is largely irrelevant in selling. Sometimes the stems can be plastic rather than glass. I've found similar sets in crystal with West German labels on the crystal but never seen one in color with an identifier. I've heard these were furniture store sales giveaways but can't confirm.
