I have this small brooch, but have no idea on the age or makers mark. Anyone out here who can help me please with information on the maker, age and others? Highly appreciated!

Sterling silver, made in England. Date mark looks like 1890*, but I'm not positive. The horse-shoe motifs make me think Victorian. People are going to want to see the full back of the brooch, to see what hinge/clasp it uses and where the pin ends.

Edit: Wait, Birmingham mark is sideways, so perhaps 1873?

The pin is upside down. The thing in the center is a riding crop.

A tiny clue as to 1873 or 1890, if you don't have those wonderful British date marks to help you, is the moon and star pattern around the edge.
Although not necessarily restricted to one single period, moons and stars were all over ca 1890 jewellery. So if you see that on a jewel while it is totally unrelated to the central theme, in this case horse riding, think ca 1890.:)

Another one is the hinge. This looks like the original hinge and clasp. An 1870s brooch would have a wide tube hinge. These more compact hinges were introduced just before 1890. They became even more compact after that.

Thank you :) Do you have a good resource with popular designs/styles of Victorian jewelry?

It might be a political statement but odds are it's just horsey.
