komokwa The Truth is out there...!

Maybe if you told us what things you actually like...we could zero in on just those items.
Looking for something..' a little rare ' & 'easy to ship'..... are not high criterion for choosing antiques.....specially where cost is not yet known.

That's true, and sounds like a good idea!
First photo: Still looking into the female torso and the two pigs on plate next to it
Third photo: the single pig figurine
any other figurines that have not been identified that may look familiar. I know it would be a lot easier with clear photos or creator's mark. Even then, you all have been great help!

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

Are you getting these for yourself, or for resale? It does seem that you care whether they would be a good investment in either case.

For myself and resale, I have to do a lot of reading and research in both cases since I am still new at antiques. Reselling antiques and vintage items online was a little side thing I saw myself doing for extra money

Well, I think you've come to the right place to ask. Lots of sellers willing to share their knowledge and opinions here.

    Curious -
Are these things you are inheriting? or things you are buying from a dealer?
If buying for resale you want to be able to at least double, if not triple or quadruple your money.

Buying from a long distant friend, he's about 90-something years old and has been collecting antiques for many years, and the great thing about it is he still vividly remembers the stories behind it.

I'm really interested in collecting and someday reselling antiques/vintage items, you're right about being able to make twice if not more from it. My friends doesn't see any use in it, but I am a high believer in "One man's trash is a another man's treasure". Also, I find it to be enjoyable, going to flea markets/stores, learning and treasure hunting. I'm often roaming through the "Sold Listings" on Ebay and it's amazing the amount of things being sold.. things I feel I've passed by plenty of times when I'm at thrift stores or the antique malls in my area. But, that's something I'd have to figure out as well is being able to make some profit from it

Well the only other advice I can give:
Don't rely on your memory to remember what you paid for things.
Start an inventory system and keep track of what you are buying. Or date the items and list by date.

It will help if you need to sell, as well as insurance.

Thank you! That's a great tip and idea, I bought a gorgeous sake set I found at a Goodwill and although it was months ago I honestly don't even remember how much it cost, so having an inventory system would be great to have in hand.

mmmm...don't remember exactly but I think just something like pig plate in the ceramics portion of Ebay. Sometimes google isn't too helpful:rolleyes:

I wonder if the pig figurine is an Acorn UK pig. It resembles it. I saw mention somewhere that the factory closed in 2009 but I don't know anything about it.

It does occur to me, however, that if the pig plate turns out to be from the 1990s and if this pig turns out to be newish, then your friend may have some non-antiques mixed in with older things. Not a bad thing but something to keep in mind if you are specifically looking for antiques (generally accepted to mean 100+ years old)

Once again, great find and eyes! Thank you! I rely a lot on Google, but you're right sometimes there's way better sources out there. That's a good point you mentioned, he may have mixed things -didn't think about that. I suppose that's why I also wanted to know more info about the items and do some research before blindly purchasing.
