pocket compass date?

    i think this used to be my great uncles ( late grandads brother ) it was a long time ago my grandad last talked about him i was a kid but from what i remember he served in the army so i presume this was his

    so just looking for a date for the watch ( if it is from ww2? )and what the letters stand for on the watch if anyone could help me please , would be good to have a little info before i put it up for sale

    The ones that were issued were usually marked "US"

    This style started in the thirties

    ACFD is probably A___ County Fire Department or something like that

    Pocket compass, I think the lettering is self engraved initials.
    Are there any makers marks or military markings on it ?
    Broad Arrow ?

    Notice the quote marks around the "D" and no dot. I don't think that would mean Department.

    Looks like there is an "A" scratched in above the letters.

    there's the innitial A above the other letters my great uncle was called arthur

    no other markings apart from what is seen in the pictures :)

    In the UK MOD, ACF means “Army Cadet Force.” The following “D” indicates a specific unit within the ACF, perhaps a brigade, further research is needed to see how the ACF was organized.

    So you think the Dennison compass came in a Carrier case? Perhaps Carrier made a belt loop case for carrying small items like a compass?

    i'm not sure if the carrier case i have was actually intended for this compass but your probably right the case was made to carry small items like pocket watches or a compass
