Featured Oriental Bowl from the 1800s

This is photos that my brother emailed me about a bowl he was going to get rid of as he was redecorating the room. The photos aren't very good and I don't have any information about its size, however it looks large about 12" across. He was going to give it to Goodwill until he saw the stickers on the bottom and wondered if there was any value in the piece. He asked me because I have an Etsy vintage shop, but I have no clue about a bowl this old. If any of you have any information I would be grateful and pass it on to him.

I understand what you meant. Thank you for letting me know how to price it for my brother. He said it was a heavy porcelain bowl. So shipping will be a factor. Thank you. I wonder if the design on the bowl is all hand painted? Does anyone know?

 

I suspect that a fair amount (if not all) of it is transfer and not hand painted, but some closer and better lit pictures will tell the tale.

 

OK, I will try to go over tomorrow and take better photos.

 

It’s transfer printed. But Japanese used that technique during 19th so it could be from that period.

 

Yes, Meiji period stencil printed porcelain. The technique is called Katagami Surie (http://www.imari.com/inban.html ) . By the way Imari was produced in Arita, Imari was just the harbour from which it was traded...
