Got his ring which is marked 538 and has a Russian hammer/sickle mark, but not so sure what the other mark is. I read 7T10. Is this a makersmark? Not so sure what the stone is. Guess it could a ruby orso.

The USSR was a major producer of lab grown corundum gems in all sorts of colors, so could be a ruby, but probably not a mined one. Think the other mark is gold fineness written in the Russian system? Talking without checking.

There is a lot of info available online in Russian.
Plus my grandmother had a similar ring with a similar ruby, so that's how I know it's lab-grown

585 rather than 538, by the way.

My mistake. I typed to quick, I meant 583 which means it is around 15k gold

Absolutely, since 1925 USSR 14k gold was marked 583, which is the correct fineness. 585 is just a nice round(ish) figure.;)

Thx. Both of them bought in different boot sales. The red stone ring for £15 and the other for £2.
