Chromolithograph, and the original hangs in the Metropolitan.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

With that tag, I suspect that it was a class gift from the departing seniors.

Beening a Chromolithograph, does anyone have a guess as to what the value would be? Again, I have never seen a large picture like this one.

    Welcome, new member. :)

The standard answer here for your question is that your item is worth what someone will pay for it. Art is not like a dinner table that one can say, "Oak tables like that typically sell for $$ here in the midwest."

And in the case of that particular picture, while there certainly could be a number of possible interests to which it would appeal, (Shakespeare, Abbey devotees, people who collect illustrators, people who collect artists from the Philadelphia school Abbey attended, etc), it's size and subject matter rather limit the kind of wall space it could occupy in this day and age.

Actually, were I teaching Shakespeare, and had a classroom of my own, I'd very much like to have Cordelia in all her glory. I just can't picture her in the dining room. Or the living room. And certainly not a typical "family" room.

I sometimes see such prints attempting to be sold for up to $350.00 but don't see them selling for such figures. I sold a similar large (though not quite this large) framed print from this same era with similar subject matter by a different artist (Alma-Tadema) for $100.00 with free shipping on ebay. I had tried to get more unsuccessfully both in store and on ebay. Couldn't even get $95.00 in store.

Yes, you are right. The small ones do not seem to bring much.
But never seen one the size of this picture.

The one I sold was 42" plus frame so not that much smaller. I thought it would have more appeal than it did. Took me over 6 months to sell it.

When I lived in a Victorian house in Boston, I would have loved it. Now I live in an 1870 Gothic Revival house on Cape Cod and it wouldn't fit in.
