Need help identifying some signatures

  1. Here is the Dutch Tavern, shown up close, the frame it was in was nothing more than a holding frame certainly not related to the painting itself, this painting is on tin and the details are insane. 20221116_011218_resized.jpg

@Shadowwolf1117, all I can really do is try to clarify & enhance the letters in the signature on the Floral/Fruit painting....as I'm not quite sure what the letters are supposed to be & don't want to distort them.....enhanced in both near black first, then second - near white...... can't tell if the first letter might be an F or a T, or NEITHER!! Or if even English!!! Does appear to be a distinct '25' after the signature though......(an FYI since you're new-I will invert colors to try to help bring out letters/signatures/etc., as needed!!:)...sometimes helps/sometimes not)

  3. Aquitaine..Thank you so much! You guys are awesome. I am excited about this collection but certainly a lot of digging needed to ascertain values and age. The entire collection is 86 paintings!

The first 2 paintings I believe are copies of portraits of Galileo and Annibal Carraci.

  7. Yes the first is Galileo, it appears to be early 18th cent but I cannot attest to its value. Thank you for the insight to Annibal Caracci, again do we know value? It is painted like a master but no way of confirming this. Thank you!

As for the Cumaean Sibyl portrait, Domenichino painted the original in the early 1600's , the one I have is truly an after master but appears much older than 1800's, it has been relined but the edges of the original are visible and carries a very dark age appearance. Thoughts?

Ultimately everyone, value and identity is needed as all these paintings are for sale. Thank you!

If value and identity are important since the items are for sale might I suggest that you seek the advice of experts who are paid for their services. While there are many knowledgeable people on this board, none of us have examined these paintings in the flesh and, as the old saying goes, what you get for nothing is worth exactly what you paid...

If you believe any of your paintings are that old and/or valuable, you really should get a professional appraisal. While it's fairly easy to tell online if a painting has age, most of us aren't appraisers. Until you see an expert, I would be very skeptical that you have any "old masters" lying around.

If you do have a $200k painting in that collection, it would again be prudent to pay for an appraisal and insurance.

Look,I don’t know much about art. But just on face value that looks like a very impressive and wonderful collection.. I agree, take the pictures you are really wondering about to a specialist consultant/appraiser.

And maybe just maybe you have one ‘hell of a’ inheritance among them (even if most turn out to be antique copies) Imagine a original Gainsborough.Exciting stuff!!

The exciting thing about the potential Gainsborough is the image does not reside in his current archive, nor is there record of any painting of his from 1776, would certainly make sense if this was a "missing hole" in that timeline. Or it could just be a valuable after master, the journey commences!

  15. Interesting, the one you posted Debora is also an after master, apparently the original done by Susterman has Galileo holding a telescope, more of a half body portrait seated. hmmmmmm

The Galileo I posted is an original. Here it is on the museum's web site.

@Shadowwolf1117, I took a stab at your 'Lady with the Scottie'....I straightened her, then blew her up 2X, that's all.....to see if anything showed up....I can't make any sense of that mark in the lower right corner if it's supposed to be a signature, and maybe it is, but I couldn't understand it. In enlarging the image though, it "LOOKS" like there could be a signature almost hidden across the Scottie's chest.....(no guarantees ) But, I would do as others have suggested with this exciting inheritance and have a professional help you with it....... enlargements below....
