    Hi guys,

Can you please help with these beads? Found at flee market, look like glass with white core and bright red glossy surface. The beads are spherical and graduating, and feel quite heavy. Wonder what the origin and age might be...
    Thanks in advance!

Unless restrung, they're fairly new given the lobster clasp. 1990s on.

Thanks, Debora. I thought they did not make overlaid glass that late, isn't it an old technology from the 1960s?
    Any clue of the origin?

    Could be porcelain?

Thanks Ratsy, never thought of this. They are clunky and heavy.

Overlay glass is still made, so that's no help on dating. I do think these look porcelain, fwiw.

Thanks, Any Jewelry, Ownedbybear, Debora, Ratsy!
You are right, after looking for porcelain beads, I found a Chinese wholesale seller with very similar beads in different colours labelled "handmade porcelain beads"
    Thanks again, guys!

Chinese makes sense, they have a tradition of making porcelain beads. They are pretty beads, nice colour and nice quality glaze.

Yes, Any Jewelry, they look gorgeous on the string and that's why I bought it. Also because they looked strange, not known to me. I'm a porcelain lover so maybe I was drawn to them unconsciously :) Anyway, happy to have them and thanks again for the help in deciphering their nature.

If they're pretty and you like them and will wear them, it was a good buy.
